Set against the horizon of Lombok’s shoreline, Medsa invites guests to dine with sea views stretching into the distance.

We built the branding to honor this atmosphere, balancing elegance and warmth so that every visual element supports the calm, sunlit character of the space.

The name Medsa is born from a meeting of cultures. It blends the word “Mediterranean” with the Indonesian word “rasa” (taste).
The visual identity draws from the art of Mediterranean mosaic, a precise technique practiced across Roman and Greek cultures that reflects how small, deliberate fragments come together to form a unified whole.

Deep blue, inspired by the color of lapis lazuli and its status as a historically prized stone across Mediterranean civilizations, introduces depth and permanence while carrying associations of richness and continuity within Medsa’s identity.

We translated these references into a contemporary logo inspired by Roman pillars, enriched with patterns influenced by Lombok’s Uma Lengge batik motif. The result is a visual language shaped by classical heritage while reflecting Lombok’s coastal character.

The mosaic principle is translated into table elements through a series of graphic compositions.

A series of Mediterranean symbols, from fish to wine vessels and olive oil bottles, are composed in structured mosaic arrangements, bridging classical references with a contemporary dining atmosphere.

The identity is further realized through environmental signage. Handmade mosaic tiles are assembled into the identification sign, transforming the brand into a tactile architectural presence.

Each motif is formed from repeating geometric fragments derived from the core mosaic pattern. These elements are scaled and rearranged across menus, tableware, and signage, ensuring heritage references are expressed with clarity and consistency throughout the contemporary space.

Through a careful translation of the brief, Newman shaped these references into a cohesive system that balances heritage and setting.

Every detail, from concept, proportion, to placement, was deliberately developed to ensure Medsa’s coastal identity.
