A Comprehensive Sports Compound for Champions
Dewa United Basecamp is a one-of-a-kind complex that unites Dewa United’s three powerhouse divisions: Football, Basketball, and Esports. Located in Tangerang, Banten, this compound is designed to meet every need of an athlete — from training and daily living to match day performance while providing a space for visitors and supporters who want to join the journey by watching the matches or buying their apparels.
For this project, Newman assisted PT Dewa Sports Indonesia to develop a full signage and wayfinding system, as well as environmental graphics, tailored to the identity of Dewa United. The visual direction embodies the spirit of sportsmanship, community, and modern design. With a multifunctional sports compound at its heart, the challenge was to create a system that balances clarity, durability, and brand presence across both interior and exterior environments.

The Basecamp is equipped with extensive facilities: VIP Waiting Room, Gym, International Standard Basketball Court, International Standard Football Field, Mini Soccer, Swimming Pool, Sauna, Plunge Pool, Recreational Rooms for each division, PC Room, Practice Rooms, Meeting Room, Anak Dewa Dormitories, Kitchen, Physio Room, and a Classroom.
Across all these touchpoints, Newman’s contribution is present and felt.
Beyond wayfinding, Newman developed an environmental graphic system that reinforces the mood of the compound: bold, active, and ambitious.
The concept draws inspiration from the Dewa United logo, brought to life through angular shapes, folded lines, and dynamic forms. The strong black, yellow, and white palette heightens contrast, energizing the environment while cementing a powerful brand identity.
Upon arrival, visitors are greeted with a clear and welcoming signage system that guide them towards their destination.
The main building façade features three monumental decorations that represent Dewa United’s divisions: football, basketball, and esports. Each piece is crafted from bent solid steel plates, with sharp edges to evoke dynamism and strength. Through a combination of negative space and perforated steel, these installations create a striking visual presence — at once modern, durable, and symbolic of the athletes’ pursuit of excellence.
The boldness in the design extends into the signage system itself. Mixed materials, including solid and perforated surfaces, were finished in matte textures with sharp corners and oversized typography. The result is a signage language that feels authoritative yet inspiring — communicating direction while embodying the greatness the athletes strive for.
One of the compound’s unique highlights is the Rotating Grid Wall Panel. From ideation to drafting, Newman crafted this interactive wall from a grid of rotating squares. Each square can flip between two colors, allowing the wall to spell out words, display messages, or form bold patterns.
Functional yet engaging, it is both a communication tool and a kinetic piece of brand storytelling that constantly reenergizes the space.
Throughout the compound, we prioritized design cohesion — ensuring consistency across both front-of-house and back-of-house areas. This seamless approach prevents the environment from feeling fragmented, creating a sense of unity and professionalism that reflects the discipline of the athletes themselves. For Basecamp, this was especially important: a training environment must not only inspire athletes on the surface, but also support them functionally and emotionally behind the scenes.
To further anchor the design system, we introduced a recurring golden line motif in the iconography — a visual nod to the golden line of the Dewa United logo. This line serves as a symbol of excellence, victory, and the unbroken connection between athletes, fans, and the club’s legacy.
With Dewa United Basecamp, Newman shaped a visual system that lives and breathes the values of sport: clarity, strength, ambition, and unity. Every detail works together to support the athletes’ journey to greatness, while ensuring the Basecamp itself becomes a lasting icon of Indonesian sports.
